(L-R) Dean, Samantha, Nipuna, Shira, Danielle, Genevieve and Zhefei at the SETAC Prairie Northern Chapter Meeting in Edmonton in June 2024.

Welcome to the Joudan Lab!

We are a group of environmental chemists interested in the fate of organic chemicals in the environment. Combining our knowledge of analytical, organic and physical chemistry with environmental sciences, we research how environmental reactions impact the fate of contaminants including per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), pesticides, pharmaceuticals and plastic additives. To do this, we use a combination of laboratory studies and field measurements.

We officially opened on January 1, 2023, when Shira began as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Alberta.
